The 2021年滑竹梁子古树生茶 is a premium raw (sheng) Pu-erh tea crafted from ancient tea trees in the renowned Huazhu Liangzi (滑竹梁子) region of Yunnan Province, China. Known for its high altitude and pristine environment, this tea embodies the essence of traditional Pu-erh craftsmanship and the unique characteristics of centuries-old tea trees (古树).

BACKGROUND

1. Origin: Huazhu Liangzi (滑竹梁子)

  • Location:
    • Huazhu Liangzi is a remote and elevated tea-producing area in Yunnan, situated at an altitude of over 2,000 meters.
    • The region is celebrated for its bamboo forests, cool climate, and fertile soil, which contribute to the unique flavor profile of the tea.
  • Ancient Tea Trees:
    • The tea is sourced from wild or semi-wild tea trees aged hundreds of years, growing in a pristine environment free from pollution.
    • These trees produce limited quantities of high-quality leaves with rich nutrients and natural sweetness.

2. Year of Production: 2021

  • As a relatively young raw Pu-erh, this tea maintains its sheng characteristics, offering a vibrant, fresh, and aromatic experience.
  • While enjoyable now, it has immense potential for aging, allowing it to develop deeper and more complex flavors over time.

3. Craftsmanship: Traditional Tea Processing

  • The tea is carefully handpicked and processed using traditional methods, preserving the integrity of the leaves.
  • Stone-milled compression ensures a gently pressed cake, facilitating optimal aging conditions.

Flavor and Aroma Profile

Aroma:

  • Floral Freshness: Dominant notes of wildflowers and fresh bamboo.
  • Sweet Undertones: Hints of honey, sugarcane, and a touch of tropical fruits.

Flavor:

  • Balanced Bitterness: A light, pleasant bitterness transitions into a sweet aftertaste (hui gan 回甘).
  • Herbal and Earthy: Subtle herbal notes with a clean, mineral-like freshness reminiscent of mountain air.

Mouthfeel:

  • Smooth and full-bodied, with a refreshing and crisp sensation.

Aging Potential:

  • This tea is crafted with aging in mind, and with proper storage, it will develop richer flavors, mellower textures, and enhanced complexity over the years.
